National Suicide and Self-harm Monitoring System project

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) is an independent government agency that collects and collates data on health and welfare issues, including suicide and self-harm.

AIHW manages the National Suicide and Self-harm Monitoring System, providing national data on suicide and self-harm from a number of sources, and also coordinates suicide monitoring of serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members.

Everymind, through the Life in Mind program, has collaborated with the AIHW to support awareness, engagement, understanding and usage of data in the System, through translations of data releases on suicide and self-harm, and the development of a suite of resources including factsheets, data snapshots and a safe communication guide to assist with safe and accurate reporting of data.
