Mel is passionate about connecting with people, helping people, and getting out in nature. She is a mother of three boys, one of whom she lost to suicide in 2017, Lachy. Lachy struggled with his mental health for over 12 months, and in his memory, Mel founded Lachy's Reach. This registered charity raises money to connect young people to alternative and holistic services to support their mental health.
Mel is also a stepmother to another three boys and lives in Gisborne with her husband, Leigh, and their four dogs.
She is an Equine Assisted Learning Practitioner and is a proud owner of her horse, Jack, who plays a massive role in keeping her going.
Mel was the Chair of the Macedon Ranges suicide prevention in 2022 and enjoys forever learning.
