Everymind is to co-facilitate more than 150 professionals from the entertainment industry today at the Sydney Opera House, as part of a national series of wellbeing focus groups.
Hundreds more attendees – including those working in the music, theatre, dance, television, film and radio industries – are set to join focus groups in other state and territory capitals during November and December.
The events – called the Australian Alliance for Wellness in Entertainment Forums – are part of an initiative developed by health promotion charity Entertainment Assist (EA). EA was formed to encourage open conversations in order to reduce high rates of anxiety, depression, suicide and isolation in the entertainment industry.
The forums are comprised of industry wellness sessions, informative presentations and roundtable discussions.
Everymind is a member of the EA national advisory group as the health lead, and is supporting the development and running of the focus groups.
An Everymind spokesperson said “Mental health and wellbeing in the Australian entertainment industry is a shared responsibility. It is vital that individuals know how to support their colleagues and get support when they need it.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the entertainment industry on this program. Such a dynamic industry will always present some unique challenges with regard to mental health, but initiatives like EA are making real change.”
The forums are taking place throughout November and December, and places are filling up fast.
