Everymind named as Principal Sponsor for National Suicide Prevention Conference

Everymind is pleased to announce it will be Principal Sponsor of the 2019 National Suicide Prevention Conference being held 22-25 July in Melbourne.

The annual conference coordinated by Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) provides an important opportunity for the suicide prevention sector to come together, share key learnings, network and help move the sector forward to achieve its goal of reducing the rate of suicide in Australia.

The national event attracts more than 600 delegates from across Australia and internationally, with this year’s theme being collective action. The 2019 conference will offer a robust, engaging program of national and international keynote speakers, complemented with a suite of presentations from people and organisations across Australia as well as exhibitions and workshops.

Everymind Acting Director, Marc Bryant said the Institute was immensely proud to be supporting the national conference as the first Principal Sponsor.

“After more than 25 years as a leader for the prevention of mental ill-health and suicide, Everymind sees partnering with the national peak body for suicide prevention as an excellent opportunity to help facilitate and bolster information sharing and collaboration within our sector,” Mr Bryant said.

“Suicide prevention is part of our core business at Everymind, and we are passionate about collaboration and believe working together as a sector is integral to achieving effective outcomes.

“The conference plays an important role in increasing sector commitment to participate in a collaborative approach to suicide prevention, and is why we’re so pleased to be supporting it.

“Various Everymind initiatives will be showcased at the conference including one of our key programs, Life in Mind - a national digital gateway connecting organisations and communities to the latest information, activities, resources and research in suicide prevention.

“Launched last year we will be sharing the Life in Mind gateway with conference attendees and inviting them to get involved and add their information and events. The purpose of the program is to enhance community participation in suicide prevention activities, which aligns with the aims of the national conference.”

Conference attendees will also be able to:

  • Sign the Life in Mind Communications Charter - a unified approach to mental health and suicide prevention, which supports coordinated and consistent messaging around mental health and suicide prevention.
  • Support #YouCanTalk - a joint national suicide prevention campaign aimed at giving people the confidence to respond to friends and family when they need help and guide them to the right support services.
  • Access Mindframe expertise on safe media reporting, portrayal and communication about suicide, mental ill-health, and alcohol and other drugs.

Suicide Prevention Australia, CEO, Nieves Murray said the conference is the pre-eminent industry knowledge exchange, education, networking and capacity-building event in the suicide prevention sector.

“We are delighted to partner with Everymind as the principal sponsor of the National Suicide Prevention Conference,” said Ms Murray said.

“Collaboration and information sharing is critical for achieving our vision of a world without suicide,” she said.
