About Kristy

Kristy has been with Everymind since 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts in communication and cultural studies and writing, an MEAA-accredited Professional Subediting Certificate, and has completed her Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.

Kristy has seven years’ experience working in health (both at NSW Health and the UK’s NHS), and more than nine years’ as a senior journalist and health writer at some of Australia’s most popular print and online publications.

Since joining the Institute, she has led work with the media, mental health and suicide prevention, and social media sectors under the Mindframe National Media Initiative, and has worked on a range of activities within the Institute's dedicated communications team.

Kristy is Everymind’s MindOUT! LGBTI Champion, a project she is very passionate about. This involves building on the Institute’s commitment to delivering inclusive and responsive programs that contribute to the mental health and wellbeing of all Australians, including LGBTI individuals and communities.

Having worked in the media for almost a decade, Kristy is passionate about collaborating with and training news journalists to ensure media portrayals of suicide and mental illness are safe, accurate, and do not impact on our most vulnerable.

Kristy enjoys working at the Institute as its culture of valuing health promotion, health equity and respect for Australia’s diverse population aligns with her own values. Like the Institute, she is also aspirational, adaptive and driven to make a difference.

Some of Kristy’s career highlights include delivering LiFE Think Tank presentations around the country, presenting at the Suicide Prevention Australia conference in Canberra, chairing an ANZCA Conference session at UoN, managing the Mindframe app development and national launch of the new Mindframe media resources, and leading the team’s initial engagement with magazine and online journalists.
